I have another very successful week of sewing! And with one more week til my hubby gets home, who knows what else will happen. =)
So on with more finishes...
My first finish was a Happy Go Lucky Hexie Quilt
I bought one of Moda's new lovely pre-cut honeycomb packs and added in a few coordinating solids for a fun contrast. It finished at 25.5" x 27" I quilted in triangles, which made cute little pies on each hexie. I think I like this quilting for machine piecing hexies, because I worry about those y-seam corners. This way they are definitely secure! And I finally have the perfect place to display some of my bird clothespins!
The paper doll mini quilt was finished awhile ago, but I never shared it. Oops! It was supposed to be a larger quilt with 12 blocks, but it is such itty bitty applique that I was doing by hand, and it was not fun anymore. So I decided to call it good with what was done. Her name is Betsy, and she is adorable. And she is only holding a flower because I totally goofed appliqueing her itty bitty thumb, notice the awkward slant of the leaf, lol. Seriously, who can applique something so small? Nobody.
Her facial features and shoes are hand embroidered.
I also finished up my little lone origami crane block into a mini for my wall. Pattern available here.
Next up came two Union Jacks. My friend Tracey came up with this lovely pattern and has it up for free on Craftsy! It's paper piecing, but not too challenging, and it gives you the perfect angle and width for the flag. Making the block on it's own it finishes approx 18.5" x 12.5".
I quilted it very simply, about 1/8" from the seam in the white only.
One is on it's way to Spiffing Jewelry's studio and showroom, I believe to go with their new Doctor Who inspired collection. And the other is on my wall. =) I cannot tell you how happy this wall makes me!
And finally, the last finish.
My Marcelle Medallion (from the Liberty Love book by Alexia Marcelle Abegg).
I'm sure if you are a quilter you've seen these around. And you'll notice mine seems to be a bit small. I'm short 5 borders. I pieced this a few weeks ago and had so many issues with the center block. I actually had to come up with my own way to piece it because it was not working like it should following the directions in the book. In the end it worked out. And then I got to the triangle border and things started getting very wibbly wobbly. A gallon of spray starch later - ok not really, but it helped a ton! - I got the yellow border on and set it aside to work on more necessary projects. I expected to get back to it and the 64 flying geese units it called for shortly, but I dreaded it. You shouldn't dread a just for fun quilt. So instead I finished it as is. And I had a lot of fun quilting it!
I'm calling it the Abbreviated Marcelle Medallion.
1/8" away from the seam is a definitely favorite of mine now. It's so crisp. So I started out with that and then started adding more, and increasing the spacing between rows of stitching. Some areas are more dense, others were left simple. My favorite is the outside border.
It's still a bit wobbly, but I am very happy with it. It finished at 26" square and will likely hang above my bed. {And because it is a Liberty of London pattern, I'm very happy I had that beautiful blue Bloomsbury Gardens print left from binding my Liberty quilt.
I now stand at 19 finishes for 2013. I started April out with 9 finishes. Whoa!
Alright. I promise my next post won't be a catch all post. Thanks for checking in!
