My husband has been out of town for about a week and a half for training. This means I have a TON more time to work on quilts, and I have been crazy productive! And I have about 2 and a half more...so brace yourself. I'm actually lamenting taking time away from binding right now to write this catch all post. My sew-jo is flowing!!
I finished The Queen's Floor on April 5th.
I then went on to finish What's Black and White and Red All Over? on April 9th.
I had started this quilt sometime last year, piecing 4x4 patches, I had plans for using them in a different way, but it never felt right, so I decided to just put all of the blocks I'd made together into a quilt top. The fabric used is mostly Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater, the backing is a black and white houndstooth flannel. Finished size is 54" Square. This quilt is available in my Etsy Shop.
After I finished that up, I whipped up not one, but TWO Noteworthy baby quilts. Again, awhile back, I had started a project with them. This time I took my fat eighth bundle and cut 3" strips from the whole thing, then quickly proceeded to forget what I had planned for it. And as you can see from these 2 very different quilts I still had issues deciding what to do with them. =)
These were finished on April 11th and 12th.
The first started out as a cool 8x8 patch that got too tedious to continue, so it ended up half school half sort of random scrappy.
The second one was made using the 1600 quilt method, though my strips were 3" x 21", rather the 2.5" x WOF like a jelly roll strip is. I think the scale is perfect for a baby size version, and I made sure to trim off any ends where the same fabric would be touching, because it would be so much more noticeable on the small quilt.
As you can see both quilts were quilted with a wavy line, still done with a walking foot, and still as close as I get to free motion quilting.
Both Noteworthy quilts are backing with a sweet Mary Engelbreit fabric I've had in my stash for about 6 years. Not the perfect shade of blue, but very cute nonetheless. I'm glad I finally found a use for it.
Somehow both quilts finished at exactly the same size, 37" square. They are available in my shop.
And finally, my last finish to share with you for now, before I get back to binding.
My awesome cousin of Spiffing Jewelry fame, ordered her sweet puppy, Indy, a light weight blanket. She wanted mid-century modern, maybe some wood grain, greens and teals. And Les Amis was the perfect choice! I quickly threw together a little 24" "quilt" with no batting (What is that called, summer weight? Something more creative than that?).
I quilted it like you would a typical quilt, and chose to echo the arrows again.
And rather than binding it, I stitched it together around the edge, with right sides facing together, and then turned it right side out, pressed and stitched around the edges. It's just perfect.
I'm going to start playing around with these light weight blankets some more. This little one folded up so small you could easily carry it in a purse. I'm thinking a little larger for babies, and mama could easily stuff the thing into a diaper bag. =)
So that is all for now. I'll be back soon with more finishes.
Oh I love them all! So lovely! And baby quilts are so cute and cosy!
