Japanese Charms Swap

This morning while I was doing my usual scroll through Facebook, I came across this blog post from Narcoleptic in a Cupboard. I got overly excited about the prospect of a Japanese import charm swap, and then I saw it was only open to the UK and Ireland. =( Sarah suggested a US version of the swap, so here I am! Hosting my first swap! *cheers from the crowd*

The Details:
- You MUST have a Flickr account to participate. Besides the initial sign up here, all communication will be through Flickr.
- The swap will be open to 56 participants, US ONLY and Canada only. Sign ups will close when the swap is full. You may sign up for more than one slot if you wish.
- Your charms must be mailed to me within 1 month of the sign up closing. I will post specific dates in the Flickr group when they are available.

Fabric Requirements:
- Each participant will be required to purchase 1 yard of Japanese import fabric. Please select quality fabrics and awesome prints! Because you are cutting it into 5" squares, consider the scale of the print you select. There will be no color assignment, but please watch the Flickr group so we can get a fun assortment of colors. (Section edited. I originally stated 100% cotton, and maybe that would be the preference, but I want us to get the most awesome Japanese prints possible, so please consider how the materials will work in a quilt when selected your fabric.)
Japanese import fabrics can be found many places online like  www.superbuzzy.com www.Fabricworm.com or Etsy. Or maybe you are lucky enough to have some in your local quilt shop.
- Cut your 1 yard of fabric into 56 charms. Elizabeth Hartman has a great tutorial about how to charm up a yard of fabric.
- Upload a photo of your fabric to the Flickr group.
- When shipping put your stack of charms into a zip top bag, and include an index card with your name and address on it.

Shipping
- You will be required to include an prepaid self-addressed, stamped envelope with your package so I can send your charms back to you. Padded/bubble flat-rate envelopes work great for charm swaps, though you can choose whichever USPS shipping method you wish.

If there is anything I left out, we'll address it on the Flickr discussion.

Now, without further ado, the sign up. After you sign up please make sure you check your Flickr account for your invite to the group. Thanks!

UPDATE! -- Sondra of Contemporary Cloth let me know they'll offer a 15% discount on Japanese fabrics for those participating in the swap! I'll post the coupon code in the Flickr group for those interested. Thanks Sondra!!

  3. I took 2 spots, I love these Japanese fabrics! I'll be checking what I have on hand, but I think I will need to buy yardage, I usually have less than a yard of Japanese fabrics. Thank you for hosting!

I get a lot of spam, so I apologize for the word verification. I moderate comments on older posts, so it may take a short while to appear. Thanks!
