Have you heard about the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge hosted by Ellison Lane I missed the last one, but am so excited to participate this time. And it gave me the drive I needed to finally finish my mini Drunk Zebra!
The mini version of the block is included in my Drunk Zebra quilt pattern, you can see photos of the full size version here. {I just realized that I laid this out quite differently than the original. Oops on my part, but a happy surprise. New layout option I suppose, but now I am wondering if that is why the pieces didn't come together exactly right, the angles of the string pieces or very precise which is why it is a paper piecing pattern. I guess I'll be making another one in the near future to check.}
The mini version was definitely a bit more challenging. The wedges are so small, and the strings even smaller, so matching up all those seams was apparently impossible. But hey, it's a little more drunk than the original!
With 9 blocks, this mini quilt finished at 12" square, and has been added to my mini quilt wall.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteSo bold and eyecatching! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteOMG, that looks difficult. Turned out beautiful :)
ReplyDeletei heart your drunken zebra pattern. SO. MUCH!
ReplyDeleteLove it! It's so striking!
ReplyDeleteI love the way this one shows the octagons! It must have been tricky to do in the small size, though! Did you paper piece the string blocks?
ReplyDeleteYes the string blocks are paper pieced. When I was writing the pattern I looked at every possible way to avoid paper piecing, but to get the right angle to make the block work it was necessary.
DeleteAnd I totally didn't realize until now that I didn't alternate the colors! I like that the octagons show up too though, so I'm happy with the mess up.
oooh - it's lovely! My eyes are going a bit squizzy looking at it ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks great! And those are definitely the biggest scissors I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I like it a lot!
ReplyDeleteI heart the graphicness (I just made that word up) of your mini!
ReplyDeleteThat's quite fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's great! Love it.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and graphic, I really like it! And the Tardis christmas lights aren't too shabby either!
ReplyDeleteI love that you included your toes, for a scale comparison. I love your mini.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt so much! It really leaped out from the other mini quilts over at Ellison Lane. Fantastic work - I can believe it was tricky working with pieces that small.
ReplyDeletereally striking - this is an amazing mini quilt :-)
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite of all entries. Totally along my way. If I could convince myself to try paper piecing (again), I'd give your pattern a try immediately :o) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this :) I need to make one for myself!!!!
