I decided to combat the funk by putting together Farmer's Wife. About a month ago I figured out how I wanted to set my 42 blocks, and got them prepped. The inspiration came from here, the regular borders were too big, but it was nice being able to square up all the blocks to the same size because of the extra background fabric.
I'm so pleased with how it has turned out so far. I tried to not over think the layout, just looked at it a few times in B&W to check for balance. Now I'm mulling over a few border ideas, but I don't think it's going to be 100% done for awhile. I'm trying to decide if I could do it justice with some simple quilting, or if I should save up my money for FMQ or something more custom. I guess we'll see. =)
I have never thought of using black and white to check for value balance in a quilt layout. Genius!!! Thanks for that tip.

What a beautiful quilt. I love modern sampler quilts and yours is such a wonderful example. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you set your squares! So nice. I'm still making my blocks! About 80 done, your quilt is definitely inspiring me to finish :)
ReplyDelete80! You have almost twice as many as I accomplished. I just could not bring myself to make one more. I'll cheer you on!!
DeleteThank you! I need it now, I'm starting to lag :)
DeleteHow beautiful! I think a narrow border of something for sure... maybe the light blue? Or red to really frame it.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Turned out so good.
